POSITION:       EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC), a statutory board under the Ministry of Health with the mandate of providing promotional advisory and regulatory support to government on matters of food and nutrition, a leading institution in the coordination of food and nutrition activities in the country now invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced Zambian professionals for the position of Executive Director.  He or she will report to the Commission.             

JOB PURPOSE:

To manage the operations of National food and Nutrition Commission in order to enhance the Nutritional Status of the Zambian Population.

KEY RESPONSILITIES:

  1. Provide leadership in the administration of the National Food and Nutrition Commission
  2. Manage the formulation of appropriate food and nutrition policies and provide strategic direction in order to guide the planning and implementation of plans, programmes and projects.
  3. Lead in the provision of food and nutrition technical advisory services and advocacy to partners and stakeholders in order to contribute to appropriate management and expansion of nutrition services in the country
  4. Mobilise resources for food and nutrition policy implementation in the country
  5. Oversea monitoring and evaluation of food and nutrition policies, programmes and projects in order to assess their effectiveness and impact
  6. Develop and strengthen networking and coordination relationships with government and non-governmental organizations and other agencies working on the issues of food and nutrition in order to enhance synergies in implementation
  7. Interpret the vision, mission and strategic objectives of the Commission and ensures motivation among members of staff to work towards attainment of the Commission’s vision and goals and meet stakeholders expectation.
  8. Provide strategic leadership in the development of the Commission’s strategic plan, policies, standards and procedures, annual work plans in order to ensure sustainability of the Commission.
  9. Initiates and oversees timely formulation and review of policies related to the Commission in order to enhance effective utilization of the Commission resources.
  10. Coordinate effectively local, regional and international initiatives in nutrition in order to facilitate and achieve improved accessibility of the resource.
  11. Ensure prudent management and utilization of financial and human capital to realize nutrition intervention/awareness, cost reduction and enhance the government value.
  12. Monitoring the implementation of Strategic Change Management Plans as well as reviewing organization performance to ensure effective allocation and utilization of the Commission resources.
  13. Promotes and supports timely research and development in nutrition in order to facilitate efficient exploitation and utilization of the Commission resources.
  14. Advise the Commission on necessary changes as per legal requirements pertaining to the status, functions and activities of the Commission.
  15. Develop and recommend long-term strategies, business plan and annual operating budgets; and establishes proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures for the organization.
  16. Responsible for developing and installing sound Management systems based on good Corporate Governance and best practice aimed at promoting Management controls and financial integrity in order to improve the Commission effectiveness.
  17. Co-ordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the Commission.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A full Zambian Grade twelve School certificate or its equivalent
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Agriculture or related qualification.
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in food and Nutrition, Agriculture or related qualification to the job 
  • MBA qualification will be considered as an added advantage.
  • Must demonstrate a clear understanding of corporate governance
  • Must be visionary and able to work in a dynamic deadline driven environment.
  • Must have Excellent verbal communication and writing skill
  • Must have at least 15 years’ work experience in the related field of which 10 years should be at senior Management level in a reputable organization(s)

KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Must possess impeccable leadership skills to enable him/her guide and supervise robust broad based teams from multiple locations.
  • Must have demonstrable experience in managing diverse teams at senior level.
  • High analytical and strategy skills, sound project management and evaluation sills are a must.
  • Ability to prepare sound reports, presentation and have strategic insight.
  • Understand the regulatory and the Commission layout and also understand the ramification of these at regional and international level.
  • Be capable of exercising high level of integrity, honest and responsibility in executing of the duties.
  • Able to exercise stewardship of the Commission resources i.e. financial and material.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

  • The appointment will be on a three year contract with option for renewal upon successful performance review by the Commission.
  • A competitive remuneration package commensurate with the seniority of the position will be offered to the successful candidate.
