The National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) was established in 1967 through an Act of Parliament. The Institution is now guided by the Food and Nutrition Act of Parliament, No.3 of 2020, which gives NFNC a wider mandate to provide leadership on food and nutrition in the country. In line with its mandate, NFNC, with support from partners, is implementing Phase Two (2) of the Multisector Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN)/ 1st 1000 Most Critical Days Program in various districts across Zambia.
The Institution now invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill up a position under this program, at National level:
1.0 MEDIA EXPERT
1.1 JOB PURPOSE
To coordinate the dissemination of information on food and nutrition in order to heighten awareness and influence social behavioral change in the Zambian population.
3.KEY RESULT AREAS | PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES |
3.1 NFNC VISIBILITY | Effectively use various communication platforms, including media platforms, in order to heighten the Commission’s visibility and nutrition advocacy |
3.2 MEDIA ENGAGEMENT | Undertakes timely liaison with media institutions and other partners in order to ensure that NFNC Programs and activities are prioritized and popularized. |
3.3 NUTRITION EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION | Undertakes timely the development and implementation of Food and Nutrition Education and Communication strategies and activities in order to create awareness and knowledge and contribute to nutrition behavior change among the Zambian Population. |
3.4 MATERIALS PRODUCTION | Prepare timely Food and Nutrition information, education and Communication materials to ensure suitable, relevant and high quality materials for various communication platforms. |
3.5 INFORMATION DISSEMINATION | Undertakes the timely dissemination of nutrition information, including research findings to the various stakeholders in order to influence positive decision making in food and nutrition issues. |
3.6 CAPACITY BUILDING | Undertake various training initiatives in order to build the capacity of NFNC staff in enhancing the Institution’s visibility |
3.7 REPORTING | Draft and submit activity and periodic reports in order to enhance decision making |
1.3 EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
- Minimum of a degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in communications or media
- Valid member of a relevant professional body
- Experience in working with media champions will be an added advantage
- Computer literate
1.4 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Able to write analytical and technical reports
- Able to communicate effectively in English
- Able to work with people of different culture
- Experience in capacity building
